Thailand’s tourist entry rules are genuinely changing as this is being written, which makes this a different kind of visa article than most: instead of a settled rule, here’s exactly what’s known, what’s changing, and \u2014 most importantly \u2014 how to check the current status yourself before you book, rather than trusting a fixed number from any article, including this one.<\/p>\n

What’s changing, and why<\/h2>\n

For years, most visa-exempt nationalities could enter Thailand and stay 60 days without applying for anything in advance. On May 19, 2026, Thailand’s Cabinet approved a significant rollback of that policy: cutting the visa-free stay from 60 days down to 30 days for roughly 54 countries, and to just 15 days for three specific nationalities (Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles). The change is also expected to introduce a cap of two visa-free land-border entries per calendar year for the standard tier, aimed at travelers who repeatedly “border run” to reset their stay.<\/p>\n

As of this writing, the change had been approved by Cabinet but was pending formal publication and a subsequent implementation window. That means the exact date this takes effect, and whether it’s already in effect by the time you’re reading this, is genuinely something you need to check at the time of booking<\/strong> \u2014 not something this article, or any article written before the transition settles, can promise with certainty.<\/p>\n

How to actually check before you book<\/h2>\n

  2. If you’re booking through an airline or travel agent, ask directly what stay length applies to your passport as of your travel dates \u2014 many are tracking this closely given how many travelers it affects.<\/li>\n
  3. Don’t assume the old 60-day figure still applies just because it’s what you’ve seen in other, older articles or forum posts \u2014 this is exactly the kind of detail that goes stale fast during a policy transition.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
