The short answer<\/h2>\n

Passport holders from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and most of Europe can enter Switzerland visa-free for tourism, for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Switzerland sits landlocked in the middle of the Schengen zone, bordering France, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Liechtenstein \u2014 land crossings from any of these are typically unchecked, no different from moving between rooms in the same building as far as immigration is concerned. If your trip combines Switzerland with any other Schengen country, all those days draw from the same shared 90-day allowance.<\/p>\n

What’s coming: ETIAS<\/h2>\n

Starting in late 2026, visa-exempt visitors need to apply online for ETIAS before flying into any Schengen country, including Switzerland \u2014 a lightweight pre-travel authorization, not a visa, similar to the US’s ESTA. It costs \u20ac20 for travelers 18\u201370 and doesn’t change the 90-day limit.<\/p>\n
